Don't know if it is true, don't care, still cried.
These 2 guys reared this lion from a baby, in England but the authorities would not allow
them to keep it once it reached maturity so they were forced to give it up.
They took it back to Africa and placed it in a wildlife sanctuary. A year
later, they went to see it and were told it would not remember them.

My love for Google Earth and Google maps truly knows no bounds, and I am stalking the coolest google satellite shots out there.
Check some out right here. The top one is the Chicago loop. When Google stitches together photos taken from different vantage points, the resulting angles of the buildings create some very Escher-like city blocks.

I've been living in the 1970's for several years now. I didn't have a TV or a computer. But then man-friend lent me his TV indefinitely, and his VCR then I got a DVD player, and apparently the very bottom of this slippery slope is computer ownership. Not exactly an early adopter, am I? I wanted to make sure this 'computer' fad was really going to be the shit.

So, on the weekend I bought a used (how else could I have gotten this?) Powerbook 170 Mac for $15. I think I might have been ripped off I should have offered $10. But it does work! Has an fabulous 40MG hard drive and 8MG RAM! It almost keeps up with my i n c r e d i b l y slow typing speed. The screen has an awesome 2 colour display. The astounding thing is that when this came out FOURTEEN YEARS AGO years ago, it was $4600 US. It has a roll ball, which is so much better than those hideous nipple things, or those flat touchpads. Why did they change this feature?

So please welcome me to the nineties, I hear they're going to be really neato.

A Short History of Progress

The tagline of this book is " Each time history repeats itself, the price goes up." If we continue to make the same mistakes that other fallen civilizations - Egypt, Maya, Inca, Imperial Rome, Mesopotamia - have made, we will fall too.

I went to the last Massey Lecture in December where the author, Ronald Wright was reading from the book. It was a great Harry Potter-esque evening, thanks to my friend Jane, who is a fellow at Massey and who brought me along as guest. After high table dinner at Massey College, we all walked over to the lecture, which was great.

Of course, the coolest thing is that, at dinner, I got to sit beside Michael Ondaatje. I was fairly in control of myself, speaking with him in what my friends said was a sensible voice, but inside, I just kept thinking 'It's Michael Fuuuucking Ondaatje!!!!" I called everyone I knew when I got home.

On my other side sat Katherine Govier, who I didn't know, but have since found out is a fairly well known author. She was very nice too.

Duh on me.

I had this quote in my email signature for a while:

It had been several weeks since I used it, when I got the attached letter sent to me from a printer I was dealing with in Mississippi. (say no more...)

Hre is a picture that I just got in the mail last night.

Man-friend and I went down to Buffalo in August, and we and about 1800 other people all poured into this amazing abandoned train station and got our photo taken by Spencer Tunick .
Can't see me? Check out the close up: I got stuck way at the back, which was kind of great really, because I was one of the first people in the station and got to check it out, before turning around and seeing 1000 naked women running at me. I think the arrow is pointing at my head, that is exactly where I was; in the sun where it was mildly warmer than the rest of the freezing cold marble floor.

The train terminal has a horrible story. It was a palace of a place, and they had to shut it down in 1979. It was designated a historic site in 1984, but at some point a preservation firm, or one of the owners who was supposed to be stabilizing it so they could restore it sometime, stripped all the valuable pieces they could, bronze doors, marble arches and frames, ticket counters, the centre clock Tower , stained glass, EVERYTHING.

And then they took off. Very little of it has been recovered, but when you look around the rubble, you can see some of the glory; it was an astounding building. If they find the company that did this, I hope they chain them to the clock tower. There is a restoration fund-raiser at the Albright Knox sometime in May.

So, sad story, but the morning of the photograph was all part of a great road trip that included a blues festival at the Hillebrand WInery and a camping trip on Pelee Island.

I brought a kitten home last week for an interview with Stella He is insanely cute, but my sweet, sweet cat Stella hates his guts and wants to use him as volleyball. I think I did all the right things, kept them separate for a few days, introduced them slowly, gave them both lots of treats when they were introduced, but she hates him and is convinced I am abandoning her. I had my neighbours Owen and Ella over last night to play with him which was the cutest thing in the world. They laughed insanely loud for about 15 minutes straight. He had a great time. He can be yours if you want him. Look at him. Come on...

The update on Unnamed animal is that he now has the name Seamus Finnegan, because my friend Laura took him. I got to visit him last weekend and he is so, so, so cute. This is an appropriate mention, because it is post a cat on your blog day today...
